About the Researcher

A bit about me—I’m a PMI-certified project manager, Graduate Assistant (GRTA), wellness advocate, and now a researcher. My lived experiences and professional work inspired this project. I’ve seen how support systems—especially in Black communities—shape our health journeys. This project reflects not just what I’ve learned, but what I’ve lived.

When I began this research project, I had no idea how deeply it would affect me—not just as a scholar, but as a woman, as a mother of three daughters— who will someday become mothers—and as a listener who truly believes in the power of productive communication that  will  "HEAR Her" as a preventative measure to help save lives.

“Listen to the Whispers” was more than just a title. It  started  as  an intriguing literature review to a gentle nudge that has now turned into a call-to-action. This was especially true once I observed the subjects' various body languages, and heard the voices of the twenty Black women who so bravely shared and trusted their birthing stories with me. Their experiences weren’t just data points or academic references—they were moments of heartbreak, strength, inspiration, and sometimes silence when there should have been patient centered care.

This qualitative approach and website design choice is my way of amplifying their voices because every patient deserves to be heard. From highlighting the influential role of doctor-patient communication, to unpacking systemic healthcare barriers and celebrating the power of patient advocacy.  It's a collection of insight, truth, and resources designed to honor the lived experiences of Black mothers.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for listening.

With purpose and passion,
